A Song for the Heavens; A Bit of Hope for The World
When a loved one dies, a piece of us dies with that person. To say that my former Portuguese teacher Susana was one of my best friends may even go down badly with her family. But, feelings are so intimate and personal, and as such, I know that this feeling is genuinely pure for me.
Clearly, my world changed with her passing on this day five years ago, and she took a piece of me with her. She took our memories to the heavens that she so firmly believed existed.
Of course, I miss her, even though time will appease the pain of her absence. There is her legacy, her friendly embrace that was always there for me whether I was sad or happy, and above all, her message of hope that she always insisted on giving us about the world.
I really miss her beautiful voice with even more beautiful words. And then, in a world with so many horrible things happening, we humans need to keep on living despite everything, to keep on smiling for our health, our and our children's happiness, and a future that awaits them.
Hope is urgent, now more than ever. We also openly need to look to the past and see that so many periods of humanity were full of shadow, but not even those ones lasted forever.
