The ‘inception’ of writing. All you read on Medium is about writing on Medium…
… but I’m trying to present here a solution and not be part of the problem.
I’m a 31-year-old woman who recently joined Twitter. I did so because Medium said it would potentially increase my followers here. Frantically, my rational money-thinking mind promptly raced over there. I confess I still don’t understand how that “machine” works, but my first encounter was with another woman who described herself as a writer and publisher. After I tweeted her back, she turned out to be neither. She was a whiner, perhaps still in her early twenties, who thinks of herself as incapable of becoming what she wants to become. She tweeted or re-tweeted back to me, saying that “she may know in a few years” whether she will become her best self.
Now, this is just a quick introduction to what I have to say. Stick around because you may want to read this until the last ending if you’re a writer.
It is somewhat sad that seriously in-depth writers come to Medium with the dream of making a living at it, only to find that they should be more focused on ‘glossing’ the text than on its literary content. Fair enough! The dream may come true for some, but if it does, it seems to be motivated either by sheer luck or because writers have been reading other writers about how to write poorly…
