And just like that, sex days are over
No, this article is not directly about the sitcom Sex and the City nor it is really about its revival with And Just like That. Nonetheless, their influence is real on why I am writing this.
If you are a fan of the classic 90s show, you know it was groundbreaking into what concerns female sexuality and the way it was perceived back then, and more significantly, how it opened new ways to represent women’s sexuality until then never seen like that.
When I watched the show for the first time, I was 18, and I connected to it immensely. But this is where the problem lies. The show was depicting the late twenties and from then on to the middle thirties. Those women had unstable relationships, going on from man to man. But more important was their sexual appetite that perhaps would even make men jealous of. ( ok maybe not, but maybe yes? ).
I could relate because somehow I also had a Mister Big in my life. I too had tried this one and that one, and any other …. but just like Carrie I only had a good time with that bastard Mister Big in my life. My early twenties were the exploration of my desire, not my sexuality.
